Where's my Order?

All orders are currently sent via DPD couriers so what actually happens when it's out for delivery...

An email will be sent by them when the delivery is confirmed.  They will be able to give you a one hour window for delivery too and if you have provided a mobile phone number a text will be sent to your phone.  This communication will also give you the chance to reschedule delivery, leave the parcel in a safe place or leave with a neighbour.

On the day of delivery, you should be able to track the progress of your driver via the DPD website so you can down to a 15 minute window.

By contacting DPD you will be getting a much quicker response to your query and they have people there to help you.

If you do have a problem with your order then DPD have a team who are dedicated to sorting problems out.  They are open from 9am till 9pm Monday to Friday and 8am till 1pm on Saturday to help you.

Why Does My Soap Sweat?

Why is it that when you leave a bar of soap made from a melt and pour base out in the open it ends up covered in water droplets?

This applies to all soap bases and tends to be more noticeable depending on the humidity in the atmosphere.

This is what is often referred to as "sweaty soap" and it can easily be avoided.

So firstly why does it happen?

One of the main ingredients in a melt and pour soap base is glycerine.  Glycerine is a humectant which means that it attracts moisture.  So when you have a cream or lotion that contains glycerine, that glycerine stops your skin getting dry as it attracts moisture.

When it's in a melt and pour bar of soap it will also attract moisture from the air.  So the droplets you see on the bar of soap are actually droplets of water.  If you leave a bar out overnight it will soon be covered in water.  This is more noticeable in the warmer summer months as there is more moisture in the air.

So how to avoid it?

This is the easy bit as you simply need to cover up the surface of the bar of soap.  As soon as your bar is set and hard, simply wrap it in cling film.  This will avoid the problem of "sweaty soap".

Does it mean there is anything wrong with the soap and can I still use it?

No - the soap is still perfectly usable. Simply wipe off the droplets and wrap your soap.

Fragrance Oils - will they discolour my soaps?

As you may know already, Fragrance oils are a mixture of natural and synthetic ingredients.  With these combinations manufacturers are able to produce amazing scents such as dark chocolate, baby powder and many more.

But there can be an ingredient in there that does a bit more than give your product a lovely smell and actually discolour the soap.

It goes by the name of Vanillin - this is a common ingredient in many fragrances which has the side effect of turning soaps brown over time.  You won't notice anything to start with, but in a few days the soap will take on a lovely shade of light brown and can go even darker.  It can happen in both cold process and melt and pour soap bases too.

To make it easy for you, our aim is to stock vanillin free fragrances so that you don't come up against this issue.  So you will see that our Vanilla Cream and Coconut fragrance oils are non discolouring.  Where we are 100% sure of a vanillin free fragrance we do put it in the fragrance description.

However, sometimes when we do have a fragrance that has vanillin in it and we will put it on the website.  eg Vanilla, Sandalwood & Patchouli fragrance oil does have a small amount of vanillin in it and so we like to tell you so you can take a view.

Using a fragrance containing vanillin isn't a problem - but if you're not aware of how it can discolour your soaps you may be in for a surprise.
