First Aid Measures

Inhalation:

Remove from exposure site to fresh air.  Keep at rest, obtain medical attention.

 

Eye contact:      

Rinse immediately with plenty of water for 15 mins.  Contact a doctor if symptoms persist.

 

Skin contact:   

Remove contaminated clothes, wash thoroughly with soap and water, flush with plenty of waterr.  If irritation persists seek medical advice.

 

Ingestion:             

Seek urgent medical attention immediately.  Rinse mouth out with water.

Fire-Fighting Measures

Suitable extinguishers: CO2 dry powder or foam type extinguishing media to base of flames. Do not use direct water jet on burning material.

 

Special measures: Avoid vapour inhalation. Keep away from sources of ignition.  Do not smoke. Wear positive self contained breathing apparatus and protective clothing.

 

Extinguishing procedures: closed containers may build up pressure when exposed to heat and should be cooled with water spray.

Accidental Release Measures

Personal precautions: avoid inhalation and direct contact with skin and eyes.  Use individual protective equipment in case of major spillages.

 

Environmental precautions: keep away from drains, soils, surface and groundwaters.

 

Cleaning method for spillages: remove all potential ignition sources.  Contain spilled material.  Cover with an inert or non combustible inorganic absorbent material, sweep up and remove to an approved disposal container.

Apply good manufacturing practice and industrial hygiene practices ensuring proper ventilation.  Observe good personal hygiene and do no eat, drink or smoke whilst handling.

 

Storage: store in original container and keep tightly closed.  Store in a cool, well ventilated area.

Reactivity: it presents no significant reactivity hazards, by itself or in contact with water.  Avoid contact with strong acids, alkali or oxidising agents.

Decomposition: liable to cause smoke and acrid fumes during combustion: carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and other non-identified organic compounds may be formed.

Toxicological Information

Acute oral rat LD50 3.4ml/kg (DLJ Opdyke FCT 1975). Skin sensitizer.  Effects reduced when applied to skin in combination with eugenol and d-limonene.  IFRA recommends that cinnamon oil should not be used as a fragrance ingredients at a level of over 0.2% in the final product due to its sensitizing potential.
